In February 1981, Secretary-General KURT WALDHEIM named a personal representative on Afghanistan, JAVIER PÉREZ DE CUÉLLAR, who—after becoming Secretary-General himself in 1982—appointed Diego Cordovez to succeed him as personal representative.
