When students have just acquired a math skill but are not yet fluent in its use, they need lots of opportunities to try out the skill under teacher supervision�a technique sometimes referred to as �massed practice�. Compiled by Laura Guertin, Pennsylvania State University Delaware County. As you get started with this approach, begin with two tiers for each lesson and then you can add as many as five tiers as you become more comfortable with this approach. The result is that many students fall between the cracks, never mastering basic math skills.
